Connect OpenAI
An OpenAI connection lets your org use its own OpenAI account for AI text, images and transcription, so OpenAI bills you directly and only GreenMind's fee is charged in credits. It is your org's. See Connections for how connecting works in general.
Ways to connect
OpenAI is connected with Add a key only: an API key from OpenAI's API keys page.
Making the key
- Open the link above, signed in to the OpenAI account (and project) that should pay.
- Create a new secret key, copy it, and paste it into Add a key on the Connections page. OpenAI shows it once.
GreenMind checks the key by asking OpenAI to list models, which is why a key with restricted permissions needs to be allowed to do that. No scopes are asked for.
What it is used for
The connection offers three things: writing text, making images and making audio (transcription). The features that use them run on your key when you have connected one. Game Designer, for example, uses it to generate images and audio for a game.
The fallback setting
The connection has a setting to fall back to GreenMind's own key, off unless you turn it on. With it on, when your key cannot be used, GreenMind may answer on its own key instead of refusing, at GreenMind's price. With it off, the request fails and you fix the key.
If it goes wrong
- OpenAI does not accept the key. It was mistyped, deleted, or belongs to a project that was removed. Make a new one and Reconnect.
- The key may not list models. The key is restricted. Allow it to read models, or make an unrestricted key.
- Requests are refused for limits. OpenAI's rate limits depend on your account's usage tier, which you raise with OpenAI.
