Connections

A connection is your access to a service outside GreenMind: a Linear workspace to track work in, a Google Drive folder to mirror documents to, a YouTube channel to post to, your own OpenAI key. You make it once, and then put it to use wherever it is needed. This page is how connecting works in general. Each service has a page of its own with the steps to take in that service's console, listed at the end.

Whose a connection is

  • Your org's. Your org's admins make these on the Connections tab of the org's page on your GreenMind account. Any of the org's projects can then use them. Game Designer works from these.
  • A brand's. In Marketing, a brand's admins connect its accounts and channels on the brand's Settings, under Connections. They serve that brand.
  • The console's. Steam keys, your Patreon campaign and config connectors are connections too, but they are set up in the publishing console, not on a Connections page. The Connections page lists them and says where to go.

Each service's page says which of these can hold it.

Three ways to connect

A service offers some of these; the Connections page shows a button for each one it offers.

  • Connect signs you in to the service through GreenMind's own app there. It appears only where GreenMind's app is open to your org, which is not the case for most services. If you do not see it, use one of the other two.
  • Use your own app connects through an OAuth app that you make at the service. The service then sees your org, not GreenMind, asking for access, and the limits, quotas and any review are yours. The dialog walks you through it (see below).
  • Add a key takes an API key, token or similar secret you make at the service. The key is checked with the service before it is saved, sealed when it is saved, and never shown again.

Use your own app

The Use your own app dialog gives you, in order:

  1. A link to where the service makes an OAuth app, and a link to its documentation.
  2. The redirect URL to register on that app. Copy it from the dialog and paste it exactly as it is. This documentation does not list it because it is the dialog's to give; a service that is given an address that differs by even one character refuses the sign-in.
  3. The scopes (or permissions) to give the app, ready to copy. Each service's page here lists them, and says where in that service's console they go.
  4. Two fields for the app's client ID and client secret. Paste them, press Connect, and sign in to the service to allow it.

Some services also ask for an optional webhook signing secret. See Webhooks.

If the dialog says the server does not know its own address yet, it cannot connect from there; tell GreenMind.

Test, Reconnect and Disconnect

Each connection on the page shows its status (Working, Needs reconnecting or Disconnected), who it is at the service, whether it was made through GreenMind's app or your own, and how many projects or environments use it.

  • Test asks the service now whether the connection still works, and says what it answered.
  • Every night each connection is checked and its token refreshed. One that the service stops taking is marked Needs reconnecting.
  • Reconnect goes the way the connection was made: through GreenMind's app, your own app (a field left blank keeps what was saved), or a new key. Use it when a connection needs reconnecting, or when you want to grant more than it has (a feature that needs another scope asks for this).
  • Disconnect asks you to confirm, then revokes the access at the service where it can, and erases it here. Everything using the connection stops. If the service has no way to revoke, the page says so, and you remove the access in the service's own settings too.

Putting a connection to use

A connection does nothing until something uses it. On the page of a project, brand or game that can use one, Use a connection lets you:

  1. Choose which of your connections to use.
  2. Choose an environment, or every environment, where the project has them.
  3. Fill in what it points at: a Linear project, a Drive folder, a Facebook Page, an ad account, an app id. The page asks for these by name.

Stop using ends only that use; the connection stays, and can be used elsewhere. One connection can serve many uses, so a connection's row says how many it has.

Webhooks

Some services tell GreenMind when something changes by calling a webhook address. Where a service does, the connection's row shows the Webhook address once it is connected, and sometimes a Verify token. Give the address to the service, in the webhook settings its page here names. The service signs each delivery; where it signs with a secret that you choose, enter that secret in the optional Webhook signing secret field when you connect or reconnect. A delivery that is not signed correctly is refused.

The services

For game design and your game:

  • Linear: track a game's work.
  • GitHub: read a repository's merged pull requests.
  • Google Drive: mirror documents into a folder.
  • OpenAI and ElevenLabs: your own key for AI text, images and audio.
  • Steam: store credentials and player names, set up in the console.
  • Patreon: your campaign's supporters, set up in the console.
  • Config connector: config your own backend keeps, set up in the console.
